WEEK 6: Impact of race and culture on the society

Race

It is possible to define race a “title” given to a group of people based on physical characteristics. This classification is done based on science. Author is of the opinion that classification of people based on race has nothing to do with their values, but people often miss use the title of “Race” by creating their own identity regardless of moral values Consider the recent event where George Floyd, a black American who was killed by police. People in America often claim that Blacks are harassed more than Whites in America by police. This creates fear among Blacks which makes them feel different and “unsafe”. This is how races can set boundaries between human kind and often become abuse.
Human as a whole belong to a single race according to science known as " Homo sapiens". Sometimes this classification of races don't even make sense. If you consider Srilanka, the race represented is Asian. But do all Srilanka have a common skin colour? Absolutely not. Even though races are separated based on physical features, the origins of human civilizations set boundaries for this classification.
Sometimes appearance can relate to physiological features. There's a common opinion that blacks can do sports well. According to science, this can be due to the pigment called "melanin" that generates energy. Darker skin has more melanin. Therefore race does have something to do with science.

Culture

Unlike races, culture is something that is born within a person from the day he was born. Language has a great impact on culture. For an example, an African who had grown up in Korea will be considered as an African Korean. This is a point where race and culture intersect each other. He would speak Korean and respect Korean traditions despite of the fact he is being Black. Thus, culture is socially transmitted from generation to another

The above reflections interprets how divisions among human kind has become both good and bad. It is important to understand and listen to other communities in an unbiased manner for the existence of peace.
